Do you feel stuck?

Are there painful experiences you can’t stop thinking about? Trauma doesn’t have to define your present.

Little things easily set you off and at times, it can feel like you go from 0 to 100. You know certain triggers shouldn’t bother you but you can’t seem to it shake off, no matter how hard you try.
You know that everyone has painful past experiences; however, your experiences go beyond painful. It can feel as if you are defined solely by your past. Whether your trauma occurred during childhood, as an adult, or at various times throughout your life you are tired of:

  • Feeling like you have to be on the lookout for danger
  • Triggers that send you spiraling
  • Overwhelming guilt & shame
  • Feeling as if no matter how hard you try, you can no longer connect with your loved ones & generally feeling detached
  • Negative thoughts about yourself & the world

FAQS

What others have wondered about counseling for trauma & PTSD:

  • Since trauma is subjective, two people can experience the exact same situations and have vastly different reactions. EMDR is an effective treatment for both “big T” Trauma (situations where you or someone else was in peril) and “small t” trauma (situations that don’t involve peril but still cause significant distress, such as: being bullied, a breakup, rejection, growing up in a household where there was a lot of yelling, parental divorce, etc).

  • Yes, as long as your insurance covers psychotherapy. EMDR is billed under the same procedural codes as traditional therapy.

  • Yes and no! While there will be elements of traditional talk therapy infused throughout our sessions, the processing associated with trauma therapy looks different than traditional talk therapy.

  • Yes and no. While you won’t be required to speak in depth about your past trauma, there will be certain aspects of the trauma that will need to be identified in order to be fully processed. While this can seem disconcerting (and for good reason, since you may have spent a significant amount of time trying not to think about what happened), we will have work together to prepare you for this prior to jumping in.
